Overview
The SWITCH-Med initiative is a regional multi-component programme funded by the EU. It is implemented through collaborative efforts by the EU, UNIDO1, UNEP/MAP2, SCP/RAC3 and UNEP-DTIE4. The overall objective of the SWITCH-Med initiative is to facilitate the shift toward Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in the Southern Mediterranean Region. The Programme target countries are Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Israel, Palestinian Occupied Territories (POT), Jordan and Lebanon. The programme aims to change the practices of the production and consumption of goods and services in order to decouple development and the satisfaction of the needs of the community from environmental damage.
CCE Role
CCE in this Programme represents Palestine and is responsible for the execution of the training activities within the SWITCH-Med Green Entrepreneurship sub-component and the provision of the mentoring services to green entrepreneurs. Up until now, 20 local business experts were trained in Birzeit University to become green business trainers and mentors. Currently they are working with more than 200 students - entrepreneurs from 8 local universities to support them with developing green business models for their business ideas.
