On Wednesday, July 14, the Center for Continuing Education held a consultative meeting on “Data for Human Rights and Social Justice.” The workshop was attended by representatives of Palestinian human rights institutions, in addition to the Data for Development project team at the Center for Continuing Education. The purpose of the meeting was to shed light on the nature of data collected in human rights institutions, methods of analysis and prospects for use, in addition to introducing the training programs that the Center will hold in the field of data analysis in the field of human rights. The meeting sought to develop the vision of the Continuing Education Center through exchanging experiences with human rights institutions and experts in the field.
The meeting began with an introduction on basic information presented by Professor Marwan Tarazi, Director of the Center for Continuing Education, in which he spoke about the Data for Fair Development project at the Center, which aims to build capabilities in data science and artificial intelligence in Palestine.
The data project team talked about the data revolution in our time and the importance of its use and analysis in the fields of human rights and the interventions that data science allows in achieving protection and social justice.
The meeting sought to create a discussion between experts and different institutions about the nature of the data collected in the institutions and the collection mechanisms used. This is in order to try to talk about how organizations can make better use of the different information that is collected. How can data use processes be developed in order to develop the work of human rights institutions in Palestine for a free, democratic and just society.
Participants from various institutions and bodies presented the mechanisms for their collection, analysis and use of data in their institutions and their personal work, and this reinforced the discussion about mechanisms for developing the work of institutions, and mechanisms for developing the training program in the field of data analysis for jurists and journalists that we are working on at the Center for Continuing Education.
