Research Focus at CCE

Educational Models

Developing models for basic education that work with the existing educational systems providing learning resources and educational strategies that empower teachers implement key strategies set by the Ministry such as active learning and integration of skills – without requiring additional resources or time from teachers or schools. We research and develop models that use project-based learning, learning through mentorship, tinkering, learning in nature; and other stimulating non-traditional modes of learning to produce high-level learning outcomes that would prepare learners for future work, social and environmental challenges and opportunities.

Life-skills Integration

Working with local and international partners on the development of life-skills and citizenship education frameworks, developing models for integrating them into multiple educational pathways, and designing metrics for assessing life skills acquisition by the learners.

Technology in Education

Researching and developing means for effectively utilizing the various technological tools (like mobile devices, applications, social media, etc.) into education – bringing education closer to young learners and their connected culture; bridging the technology gap between teachers and students; and lowering the barriers to adoption of technological tools by recycling technological devices or utilizing low-cost technologies for learning.

Gender Mainstreaming

Mainstreaming gender into education: addressing gender biases and cultural norms amongst both sexes: students and educators; and empowering girls who outperform boys at all levels of education – to be prepared to take a more active leadership role in society.

Models’ Development & Dissemination

CCE aspires to become a focal point for local organizations and donor community in development of localized models and approaches, because CCE strongly believes that development is a process that is directly related to the context that development is to take place in. Over the past years, CCE has developed and tested models in various fields including Participatory Planning, Sustainable Livelihood and Poverty Reduction, Organizational Needs Assessments, Strategic Planning Processes, Project Cycle Management, E-Curriculum Development, Entrepreneurship Education to School Students, and Mentoring to SMEs.

Advocacy & Policy Networking

CCE strives to contribute to the advancement of the Palestinian people on the national level through policy reform, awareness-raising and advocacy. On a range of different topics, the CCE is involved in policy network analysis and facilitation that attempts to explain policy development by examining networks of actors concerned with a given policy problem, across the public, non-governmental and private sectors and throughout different levels of governance.

Our Publications

CCE undertook an Analytical Mapping process and the development of a Conceptual and Programmatic Framework that intended to enhance and support MENA countries (Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Djibouti, Yemen, Oman, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan) in institutionalizing Life Skills Education within their national education systems, both in the formal and non-formal settings.

Data sharing economy is at the center of the fourth industrial revolution and the MENA region is no exception. Data economy generates social or economic value from the data (and big data) value chain like data acquisition, processing, analysis, management and sharing. Artificial intelligence (including machine learning and deep learning) and other emerging technologies are helping enterprises and the public sector improve operational efficiencies and customer service offering in addition to automating repetitive processes. Young entrepreneurs and startups are leading the disruptive economy where data is an asset and a supportive ecosystem is available. Arab MENA countries are embracing the fourth industrial revolution at various levels and extents with some countries in leading positions and others lagging behind. This study explores the data economy landscape, looking at key players and enablers (entrepreneurs, startups, incubators, accelerators, investors and other programs, initiatives and events) in 12 relatively stable countries. The main objective is to inform stakeholders and plan interventions.

To improve the quality of education, support the learning process, enhance life skills and citizenship, and integrate them within the primary education curriculum, Birzeit University, in partnership with teams from the Palestinian Ministry of Education, and with the support of UNICEF, has researched the effects of children learning with Learning Objects to reveal the impact of these objects on the development of students' life skills and citizenship.
